The Universal Cairelli is one of the most iconic military chronographs airforces issued in the vintage market. The Italian Army had great taste in watches, ordering their military timepieces from Breitling, Panerai, Universal Genève, and Zenith. The A. Cairelli was the Roman retailer who used to supply these military watches to the Italian Air Force AMI (Aeronautica Militare Italiana) back in the 1950s and 1960s. This very rare Chrono fits the Caliber 287 Universal rhodium, two-button, 17 rubies and Breguet spiral. Stainless Steel case meausures 43mm. without crown, screw back loops and curves with a break wire external rotating bezel with black insert in bakelite notches to 5 minutes, every minute dots, Arabic numerals 15-30-45, 00-60 all luminescent triangle, operation bi-directional. Additionally, they included their signature on the dials, giving a further stamp of approval. The Cairelli you see here has AMI, CP and MM (matricola militare) engraved on the case back as you should expect from a military "Cronometro da Polso". This 43 mm watch has a rich military history and it also looks great, over all very good condition, all functions work properly.
