Nei primi anni ’40, il Ministero della Difesa britannico stabilì delle specifiche per un orologio da polso destinato alle milizie impegnate nel secondo conflitto mondiale. Le specifiche sono note come WWW (Watches Wristlet Waterproof) cioè Orologi da polso impermeabili. Dodici furono le case orologiere che risposero ai requisiti del ministero: Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor e Vertex. Questi dodici orologi sono noti tra i collezionisti come la sporca dozzina.

In the early 40s, the British Ministry of Defense established the specifications for a military wristwatch for soldiers engaged in World War II. The specifications are known as WWW (Watches Wristlet Waterproof). Twelve were the watchmakers who responded to the requirements of the ministry: Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex. These twelve watches are known among collectors as the dirty dozen.
